For all you history buffs and those aspiring to be...check out the Aviation Museum at Garner Field Airport. The Museum is located at the Uvalde municipal airport in one of the original hangars built for Garner Army Air Field, a World War II primary training base. The airport opened in October 1941 with three hard surfaced runways. Garner field covers an area of 356 acres at an elevation of 942 feet above sea level. US Army Air Corps trained cadets at this primary training facility during World War II. Flight training was performed with Fairchild PT-19s as the primary trainer and had several PT-17 Stearmans and P-40 Warhawks. The Aviation Museum is a tribute to those that served in WWII and named after John Nance Garner, our 32nd Vice President of the United States.
